This grassroots Central Hawke's Bay festival celebrates an impressive 20 years in 2026. Three days of eclectic music, art, food, costumes and camping, with a genuinely community-minded feel and kids welcomed too. I particularly like that Sanctuary Sounds isn't interested in becoming a cookie-cutter festival - themes, dress-ups and a little weirdness are actively encouraged. That's my kind of sanctuary.
